Mike Berard is a writer and photographer originally hailing from the soggy rainforest and cold swell of Vancouver Island. He worked at SBC SKIER as managing editor for over three years and now freelances for a host of publications and companies from his home in Whistler, B.C. As a graduate and former instructor at Western Academy of Photography, Berard offers professional images in addition to his writing.

“Mike Berard is, hands down, one of the funniest characters in the ski industry. Funny doesn´t always mean sharp, but with Mike it does. He has the pulse on what´s hot and what’s not. Berard has lots of strings on his violin; he can write, shoot photos, make magazines, work at ad agencies etc. Very few people have such a broad base for their creative talent…and he can party like a Viking. If I didn´t know better I would take him for a Swede.” – Mattias Fredriksson, Swedish photographer

“Mike Berard is one of the most original creative types I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Never one to compromise any aspect of his work, the images and words in SKIER magazine are bar-none the best documentation of ski culture in Canada.” - Dean Seguin, Editor, SBC Media

“Mike is the kind of person who always has something enlightning to communicate. He has an amazing capacity to think outside the box and create an impact, whether visual or written. It’s always a pleasure to deal with him.” - Caroline Cossette, Marketing Public Relations Consultant, Groupe CK7

“Mike has the uncanny ability to show up at all the right times and all the right places when you least expect. This is probably why he is so in touch with what is actually happening in the ski industry. He loves it, lives it, and breathes it. It’s nice to see someone embrace the culture and project it in a way that is fun and inviting.” - Smiley Nesbitt, Former pro skier. Current marketing dude at Kona Bikes
