The Coastal Crew Kranks out the Perfect Freeride MTB Segment

by Mike on January 23, 2010

Although it is the middle of winter, my thoughts have recently turned to mountain biking.
Having been raised on Vancouver Island, B.C., my formative years involved being able to ride my bike year-round. Now that I live in a town buried in snow from November to April, I find myself periodically dreaming about riding when I should be skiing. This week, my MTB dreams have been focused on this video segment from Radical Films‘, and Whistler local Christian Begin’s, Kranked 8: Revolve. In my opinion, this might be one of the most perfect freeride mountain bike film segments in a long time. The Coastal Crew, consisting of Dylan Dunkerton, Curtis Robinson, Kyle Norbraten and Kyle Jameson, demonstrate a unique quality many freeride films have left absent in the past years – fun. But it doesn’t end there – the video part also highlights a typically-high level of B.C. riding, the lush coastal wilderness (I am biased) and truly unique stunts. Even the music sets the mood precisely, allowing the viewer to feel the enjoyment behind the riding as opposed to trying to pump up the gnarly factor with bad metal and pop-core. Similar to ski films, it’s nice to see a return to showing the reason behind the lifestyle, enjoying ourselves. The Coastal Crew makes me want to put my bike on the car and drive down to Vancouver right now. Thanks guys. – Mike Berard
